Good Bye GoDaddy — and Hello Bluehost…well maybe not

I had a website before Godaddy (GD)was on the scene. It was a simple HTML one page website that had the same look for a couple of years and was hosted by a friend. When GD came on the scene I wanted to host my own website and eventually did.

The past decade I’ve had a VPS server with GD so I could host my own websites and have probably created fifty or more over the years. I stayed with GD mainly because they have live 24 hour customer service. I used Plesk as the control panel and not C-Panel. I’ve gotten pretty good with websites starting with FrontPage, GoLive and then settled down with Dreamweaver and Wordpress. In the beginning I created websites from scratch and then with FrontPage I figured out a way to grab any website and use it as a template. Today that’s called hacking a website.

Anyway because of Google ranking and other factors involving security I want to place SSL certificates on my websites and after a lot of conflict I found out that the ancient Windows 2008 server could not handle multiple SSL’s on one IP and only found this out via a Plesk search. It’s a SNI issue (Google it) and after numerous calls trying to find out what’s happening I rebuilt my server and lost 18 websites. The back up issue was my fault…long story…however when I upgraded to Windows 2012 server (servers os’s are old on GD) I had a Wordpress issue and I couldn’t believe it! I won’t even discuss the drama that followed so I ended up buy one website from Bluehost (BH) with a C-Panel dashboard. I can’t believe with all the drama I’ve had with websites and the learning curve that ultimately increase my knowledge…but OMG C-Panel is a breeeeeze with Bluehost!

Goodbye GD I’m going with BH and will not have a server but will have each website separately hosted by BH. My VPS was $45 per month with up to 30 websites, but now I’m consolidating with Bluehost and will probably have 5 to 7 websites that will average cost of about $50 per year each but worth it and I wish I had did this sooner.

Goodbye GD because BH will now get my business as I needed SSL’s and Wordpress for my websites and I get both free with BH along with plenty of storage and memory. So if you have a GD or any VPS that’s giving you grief it may be worth your while to check out Bluehost.

Update 7/22/19

I fired Blue Host a few months ago. They wanted to act all goodie goodie about one of my websites. They gonna tell me some crap so I would buy a spam program. I saw through the fluff and was gone the same day… I’ll just stick with godaddy as I have been with them since their inception.
