The Fall of Craigslist — Who will be the new kid on the block?
I remember when Craigslist (CL) came on the scene. They were one of the first internet companies to offer the buying and selling of items along with jobs and work. However from my perspective CL copied (at the time) the semi-large newspaper in Los Angeles called The Recycler. CL took the format of The Recycler and put it on-line. The Recycler either didn’t have the techs to take the newspaper to the next level or thought they could never be replaced (I think it was the latter.)
The Recycler died within a few years after CL came on the scene and has never recovered. CL was the new kid on the block. The Recycler was like CL, the place to get everything.
I’ve earned cash with CL over the years and probably still can if I want to put up with all the bullshit that comes with it. If I put an ad on CL looking for items to buy or sale I will get all type of characters wanted to do bogus shit. If I’m seeking clients or work I get international tricksters that can’t bullshit an x-old school bullshitter, thus CL is not on my radar.
No doubt when serious people find another portal for what they want, CL will be just like The Recycler, full of holes with only the losers looking for suckers they can get some money from.
Update 9/4/19
I still feel the same, I’m even more convinced CL is on the way out, but if you’re looking for garage sale you’ll be good.
